BJP attends Badal Dal’s Maghi conference; While Capt. Amarinder & supporters miss Congress’ show

Mukatsar: Various political parties held political conference at Mukatsar Sahib on Jan. 14 during annual Maghi mela. The state leadership of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) decided to attend the political conference held by Badal Dal. Previously it was suspected that BJP leaders may skip this years conference in wake of changing equations of the ruling alliance in Punjab.

The SAD-BJP leadership claimed they would work together on the issue “that had been blown out of proportion” by the Congress as well as the media. BJP state chief Kamal Sharma and party minister Surjit Kumar Jyani shared the dais with the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and other Badal Dal leaders.

The state Congress failed to put up a united show in the Maghi Mela conference. The Capt Amarinder Singh group was absent from the political conference held.

Media reports note that the Congress leadership failed to strongly target the Badal-BJP government on the issue of drugs.

“Despite inclement weather, there was a huge rush at the Congress’ conference venue”, notes The Tribune (TT).

Fearing rain, speakers had to curtail their speeches. Except for PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa, no other leader attacked Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia for his alleged links with drug peddlers and his questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
