BJP forms committee to look into Sikh farmers’ displacement issue in Gujrat

Chandigarh/ Punjab (August 07, 2013): According to a news reported by ‘Manorma Online’ the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on August 07, 2013 formed a four-member committee that would visit Gujarat to look into the issue of Sikh farmers facing the threat of eviction from the state.

As per information OP Dhankar, BJP’s Kisan Morcha president told media persons at Chandigarh that: “We have formed a four-member committee which will visit Gujarat soon and try to find out solution to the problems of farmers who have shifted from Punjab and Haryana”.

It is notable that several Sikh farmers’ families, who had settled in Gujarat, feared that they would be displaced from the state following a 2010 order, freezing land of farmers from outside the state.

Though the affected farmers has received a favorable decision from the Gujrat High Court in 2012, but Narindra Modi led Gujarat government had moved the Supreme Court challenging the relief.
