Washington, DC: A community update by the Sikh Coalition says: [f]or the third year in a row, members of the U.S. Congress plan to introduce a resolution honouring the Sikh community’s celebration of Vaisakhi.
“Congressional resolutions are great vehicles to create awareness about the Sikh American community. The Vaisakhi resolution, in particular, honors core Sikh values such as community service and respect for the dignity of all people, regardless of their race, religion, caste, or gender” says the Sikh Coalition.
The US based civil rights body urges it’s supporters who live in the United States and who want their member of Congress to sponsor the Vaisakhi resolution, to send an automatic email to your elected representatives.
“Beyond the U.S. Congress, the Sikh Coalition encourages Sikh Americans throughout the United States to contact elected officials in state legislatures, as well as city councils and county commissions, about sponsoring Vaisakhi resolutions”, read the concerned community update.
“This is an easy way to not only create awareness about Sikhs but also start important conversations with elected officials about issues that are important to the Sikh American community” it reads further.
