Consul General of India approached to seek justice for Sewak Singh.

Sikh Federation of AustraliaMelbourne (September 16, 2009) A high level delegation of Sikh Federation Australia approached Ms. Anita Nayar, Consul General of India in Australia and raised the issue of ‘enforced disappearance’ of Sewak Singh, a Ph. D. student of Punjabi University Patiala, which lasted for six long days. A memorandum personally tendered by Sukhraj Singh Sandhu, Ranjit Singh Shergill, Jaspreet Singh and Daljeet Singh Rana to Consul General of India at Indian Consulate located at Melbourne. Memorandum provides details of the incident of ‘enforced disappearance’ and SFA has urged Indian Consul to ensure that such violations of Human rights would not happen again in future and also to ensure that all the belongings and thesis work of Sewak Singh would be returned immediately without causing any delay. Memorandum further demands that persons responsible for such a disregard to Indian Constitution, Human rights and international documents like Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) should be proceeded against as per Law. India’s Consul General to Australia has issued serious concerns over the issue brought to its’ notice. Ms. Anita Nayar ensured that Consulate shall bring the issue to the notice of Home Ministry of India to which the memorandum shall also be forwarded.
