Amritsar, Punjab: While the Punjab Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution recommending to the centre to seek apology from the Canadian government for the tragic incident that is known in history as the Komagata Maru tragedy in which 19 Punjabi’s were killed at Budge Budge ghat of Calcutta, the Dal Khalsa has questioned the Akali government as to why it was silent on infamous army assault against Darbar Sahib in June 1984.
Slamming the double standards of the Akali Dal on all vital and sensitive issues, spokesperson of the organization Kanwar Pal Singh said for years, the Akali Dal has been demanding apology from the Government of India for Operation Bluestar and the November 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom.
He said the entire Sikh Panth under aegis of Akal Takht observes the day as ‘genocide day’ coming down heavily on the Indian government for ordering army attack on the centre of the Sikh Faith.
He said recently, the SGPC has handed over a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the return of books taken away by the army from the Golden Temple complex library during the army operation.
This is the right time for the Akali Dal to adopt a resolution in the assembly on the lines, it had passed on Komagata maru tragedy thus pressing the Modi government to adopt a resolution in the Lok Sabha with the government apologizing for the blunder that was codenamed “Operation Bluestar”.
He further said the Akali Dal was part of NDA government and as such, can’t take refuge in any excuse. The alternative for the party is to move a non-official resolution in the Lok Sabha. “It is for the Akali Dal to prove its sincerity. It would also be a test of the Akali Dal-BJP alliance which, Badal has been claiming all these years, is above political interests. Similar resolution should also be moved about the return of manuscripts and rare books belonging to the Sikh reference library”, he said.
