Chandigarh: A document report prepared by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, pertaining to the misuse of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in order to crush dissent and sabotage various forms of struggle be it political, peasantry or economic was released at an event organised at Kisan Bhawan Sector 35, Chandigarh.
The event was called by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur and it was dedicated to Human Rights Day, which is annually observed on December 10 in commemoration of adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations.
The report compiled by Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur was jointly released by Human Rights lawyers and Activists. The documents sheds light on the blatant misuse and abuse of the UAPA for crushing dissent, detaining and enhancing illegal detention of the activists involved in different forms of struggles or movements. While concluding the event Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur stated that ” the cases of misuse of the UAPA in Punjab are just the tip of the iceberg, as there are countless such cases across India”.
