“Empowering Sikhi” – One day workshop/ Seminar in Edmonton on 3 May

Edmonton, Canada (April 20, 2014): As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News, a workshop/ seminar titled “Empowering Sikhi” is going to be held at Gurdwara Millwoods, 2606 Mill Woods Road East, Edmonton, AB, Canada. As per information released by the Sikh Research Institute, main organizer of the event shall take place on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Details about topics and respective speakers are as follows:

Empowering Sikhi – by SikhRI

Basics of Sikhs: Covering the core teachings of Sikhism as taught by Sikh Guru’s. This seminar is targeted towards youth and young adults, but all are welcome to share in the learning.
Speaker: Kulvir Singh, Sikh Research Institute (10:00am – 11:00am)

Vaisakhi – From Punjabi Festival to Sikh Ideals: A workshop designed to give teens and young adults the tools to understand Sikh history and the foundations of its traditions with a focus on Vaisakhi.
Speaker: Harinder Singh (11:30am – 12:30pm)

Understanding the Original Nanakshahi Calendar: In this workshop, the establishment of the Nanakshahi Calendar and how the Sikh historical dates have been established will be discussed.
Speaker: Pal Singh Purewal (1:30pm to 2:30pm)

Mape-Niana – Parenting in Sikhi: The workshop is intended to get parents inspired and ready to bring Gurbani into their daily lives, and to show how nurturing learing outside of the settings of a Khalsa School or Sikh camp can be a simple and enjoyable part of parenting.
Speaker: Harinder Singh (3:00pm to 4:00pm).

The event shall also have a question-answers and interactive discussion sessions.
