Execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana Stayed? Need to remain vigilant

New Delhi, India (March 28, 2012): As per media reports execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana is stayed by Central Government of India (GOI). Media is quoting a news report by Press Trust of India (PTI) in which informs that President of India has sent the Presidential review petition, filed by Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) and others under Article 172 of Indian Constitution, to the Ministry of Home Affairs for it’s recommendations.

Media reports are saying that this has resulted in automatic stay on execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. There is no specified time frame for Ministry of Home Affairs to form decision on Presidential review petitions

Need to remain vigilant:

In the case of Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha, such stay was over-nightly removed by Government of India on October 8, 1992 and both Sikhs were hanged on October 09, 1992 at 4 am (IST). Therefore the Sikh sangat should remain vigilant about the situation and should not take it for granted that Bhai Balwant Singh’s execution is stay for a long time.
