Family members not allowed to meet Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa; Update from Bibi Sarvinder Kaur

Ludhiana: Bibi Sarvinder Kaur, daughter of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa, today said that no one from the family is being allowed to meet him. “The police has put our father under arrest and he is being kept at Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. The police is not allowing any one to meet him”, said Bibi Sarvinder Kaur.

She said that she went to meet Bapu Surat Singh but the Punjab police did not allow her to see her father.

“Police personnel stopped me outside the hospital room. They said that they had no orders to allow anyone to meet Bapu Surat Singh”, she said.

“I talked to the doctors and inquired about he health of my father. Doctor told me that Bapu Surat Singh’s health condition is stable”, she added.

She said that doctor told her that they have removed urine catheter but the feeding tube and the Intravenous drip is not removed.

It is notable that Bapu Surat Singh (82) is on continuous hunger strike since January 16. He is demanding release of Sikh political prisoners who have already completed minimum mandatory terms of their sentences. Earlier another Sikh activist Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had twice started “fast unto death” seeking release of these prisoners, but he ended his fast at one pretext or the other.

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa says that he is determined to end his life if the government fails to respond to his call. “I am determined that I will not end my hunger-strike in any case unless the government releases the concerned Sikh political prisoners. It’s not only an issue of release of Sikh political prisoners, it’s also an issue of sanctity of Ardas of a Sikh”, Bapu Surat Singh has repeatedly declared.
