Chandigarh: Heavy rainfall across the region has been causing mishaps. One such tragedy was averted as a family of five with a newborn baby was rescued from a car stuck in the middle of a raging river on the Khuralgarh Road in Hoshiarpur on Monday.
The family was reportedly on its way from a hospital when torrential rain forced their car into the river. A passerby who spotted them immediately alerted villagers for them to be rescued.
But the car was still stuck in the raging waters when the last reports came.
Punjab is currently on red alert, with disaster response teams as well as the Army on standby.
