Foundation stone of 1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial: Dal Khalsa appreciated DSGMC for its efforts but slammed it for inviting BJP leadership

Amritsar, Punjab (June 12, 2013): The Dal Khalsa, while appreciating the initiative of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee of laying the foundation stone of 1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib Complex, strongly objected to the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh arguing the Hindutva party itself had blood of innocent Muslims of Gujarat on its hands and was thus no different from the Congress so far as the attitude towards minorities was concerned.

Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said that DSGMC under the leadership of Manjit Singh GK has taken a bold stand to move ahead in laying the foundation stone of a memorial in memory of innocent Sikhs butchered by Congress led frenzied mob in Nov 1984 despite pulls and pressure.

He however, said that the presence of the head of the party (read BJP), whose hands are soaked in the blood of innocent minority people in Gujarat in 2002 amounts to sheer political opportunism. What Congress did with Sikhs in 1984, the BJP did the same with innocent Muslims in 2002. “Both butchered the minorities to appease and catch majority vote-bank, he alleged.

The leader slammed organizers including Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is calling shots in DSGMC for inviting the BJP leadership on the occasion.

He said theirs group was fully aware of the fact about the close partnership of the Shiromani Akali Dal with this party over the years. He said chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has always kept his mouth shut over the ugly face of its alliance partner which came fully exposed during the Gujarat pogrom in 2002.

He said it was ironic that the SAD which remained protagonist of unity of minority at one stage has become first party to welcome the elevation of Narendar Modi, who is allegedly responsible for engineering the Gujarat pogrom.
