Brampton, ON (Press Release): The Free Akal Takht movement is organizing a town hall event in Brampton this Friday evening to discuss solutions to the ongoing Sikh leadership and institutional crisis in Punjab. The movement aims to free the Akal Takht from political interference and reclaim its state of social, economic, political and spiritual sovereignty.
“No matter how strongly you identify as a Sikh, the Akal Takht has a direct impact on your experience of Sikhi” commented educator-activist Harinder Singh. “Yet Sikhs around the world have no influence over the decisions being made.”
The town hall event will take place on Friday, February 19th 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Jim Archdekin Recreation Centre, 292 Conestoga Drive, Brampton, ON. The evening will feature a presentation by Santbir Singh and Amrita Kaur on the Free Akal Takht movement and a Q&A with Harinder Singh moderated by Rapinder Kaur.
“We must engage and represent the beautiful diversity of Sikhs worldwide” remarked youth educator Santbir Singh. “We aspire to connect the Sangat of 30 million and let their voices guide the governance of the Akal Takht and the decisions affecting all Sikhs.”
Tickets for the event can be reserved online at http://akaltakht.eventbrite.ca/.
