Gunfight intensifies between India and Pakistan at LoC Kashmir

Srinagar, Kashmir (August 24, 2014): Recent media reports suggest that armed forces of India and Pakistan are engaged in an ongoing exchange of fires across line of control in Kashmir. India has been accusing Pakistan for repeated ceasefire violations at Line of Control at various sectors of Kashmir.

Meanwhile there are reports that India’s Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has again asserted that there has been a series of “provocations” by Pakistani Army and the India’s armed forces are “responding adequately”.

He had made similar comment yesterday as well, affirming that India and Pakistan were engaged in exchange of gun-fires across the Line of Control.

“I have said yesterday and repeating it today that there has been a series of provocations from the Pakistani Army in the last few days,” Arun Jaitly reportedly told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of Murshidabad campus of Management Development Institute (MDI).

“Whatever response is required are being adequately made by them,” the Defence minister added.

According to some other reports in Indian media, four militants, whose identity was yet to be ascertained and a soldier were killed on Sunday (August 24) in an encounter near the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Four militants have been killed in an operation in Kalaroos area of Kupwara district,” an Indian Army spokesman reportedly told media at Srinagar.

One soldier Naik Neeraj Kumar who was injured during the operation and later airlifted to 92 Base hospital in Srinagar, succumbed, Army spokesperson reportedly added.

The spokesman said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was not immediately known.

The gun-fight has intensified during last few days between the armed forces of two neighbouring countries who have a long standing dispute pertaining to the territory know as Kashmir. Foreign secretaries of both the countries were set to hold talks on August 25, but, the talks were called off by India after Pakistan’s envoy held meetings with pro-freedom Kashmiri leaders.

The gun-fight has been affecting the life and safety civilians inhabiting the region.
