Gurdaspur/Punjab (September 16, 2012): According to media reports teh Divisional Commissioner S.R.Ladhar could be soon presenting the report of probe in to the killing of a Sikh college student Jaspal Singh by police firing at Gurdaspur on March 29, 2012.
It is notable taht Bhai Jaspal Singh was killed when police opened fire on a peaceful Sikh gathering outside a local Gurdwara Sahib in Gurdaspur to seek arrest of Shiv Sena activists who had thrashed Sikh youth during March 28, 2012 Punjab Bandh called by Sikh bodies to protest against the orders of a court to execute Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Sikh political prisoner currently lodged in Centeral Jail, Patiala.
On March 29, 2012 police firing another Sikh Youth Ranjeet Singh was severely injured.
Lawyers for Human Rights International (LFHRI), a human rights organization, had approached Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek CBI probe in to the killing of Jaspal Singh.
LFHRI representative Advocate Navkiran Singh has informed that the case is listed hearing in the High Court on September 17, 2012 where Commissioner, Jalandhar Division, S. R. Ladhar, is likely to submit his probe report.
Many human rights organization, including Khalra Mission Organization and Lawyers for Human Rights Organization, have released fact finding reports into the incident alleging unnecessary and excessive use of force by Punjab police. A YouTube video of the incident shows that the police fired at Sikhs when they were trying to escape the scene to save their live. Police chased the protesters after dispersing the peaceful protest and the video reveals that even at this stage the Sikhs were fired at by police from behind. The police personnel even attempted to break in the Sikh dwelling houses through doors and windows.
