Haryana Sikhs reiterated demand for separate Sikh Gurudwara committee

Chandigarh/Haryana (February 03, 2013): As per media reports certain Sikh leaders from Haryana state reiterated their demand for a separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee on February 01, 2013.

As per inforamtion a delegation of Haryana Sikh leaders, led by Jagdish Singh Jhinda, submitted a memorandum to Governor Jagannath Pahadia and urged him to prevail upon the state government to pass an ordinance before the Haryana Vidhan Sabha session starting February 22, 2013 and get it passed in the Assembly session.

“The Sikh minority in Haryana has every legitimate right to have its own governing body instead of being exploited by its Punjab counterpart,” the memorandum reportedly asserted.

It is notable that certain section of Sikh politicians in Haryana State are demanding a separate Gurudwara management committee. Currently historic Sikh Gurudwaras in Haryana state are managed by Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC). SGPC is a statutory body constituted by a law named the Sikh Gurudwara Act 1925. It’s territorial jurisdiction extends to the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh and Union territory of Chandigarh.
