Chandigarh (October 04, 2013): It is learnt that the Punjab and Haryana High Court deferred the hearing on the bail plea of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu till October 28, 2013.
Earlier the High Court had directed Punjab government to file affidavit giving details of incriminating evidence, if any, against Daljit Singh Bittu; but the state’s lawyers presented an affidavit levelling allegations against Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu.
Bhai Mandhir Singh, Secretary of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone that the prosecution had no answer when the High Court judge asked “where is the evidence?”.
However, instead of deciding the bail petitions, the judge asked government to fresh affidavit giving details of incriminating evidence, if any, against Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu.
It is learnt that this bail plea relates to the Jalandhar case (under UAPA) which was originally registered against a Briton Jaswant Singh Azad, and Bhai Daljit Singh’s name was attached in this case at a later stage.
Bhai Daljit Singh’s counsel Rajwinder Singh Bains today told the High Court that the trail court has already recorded witness testimonies against Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu which does not give anything incriminating against him. He presented the trial court’s records in support of his argument and asked the court to decide Bhai Daljit Singh’s bail petition but the judge said that it would prefer to check the affidavit to be filed by the state .
It is notable that Punjab government is using notorious laws such as Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) as a tool of political control.
