Chandigarh/Punjab (May 17, 2013): As per media reports the Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken serious note of the Punjab government’s inaction against Punjabi singer Honey Singh for his vulgar songs. It is learnt that on May 14, 2013 the High Court ordered the registration of a case against him.
The directions came on a public interest litigation filed by a non-governmental organisation, HELP (Human Empowerment League of Punjab) of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) district, highlighting that Honey Singh had sung lewd/vulgar songs.

The petitioner has also named Punjabi singers Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Amar Chamkila, Ashok Masti and Geeta Zaildar for singing vulgar songs.
The court reportedly said that society needed to boycott such singers.
Despite a notice issued on the earlier date of hearing, Honey Singh failed to appear for an explanation in the court of acting chief justice Jasbir Singh and justice Rakesh Kumar Jain. The court directed issuing fresh summons to the singer through e-mail and registered post for July 4.
The acting chief justice, observing the crowd of young lawyers in the courtroom who had come in anticipation of watching Honey Singh, said, “They should boycott him instead of seeing him… We are proud of our civilisation and we have to bow our head after hearing such songs.”
When Punjab’s counsel JS Puri informed the court that the chief minister had taken notice of the case, the court asked, “Why has the Punjab government not taken cognisance of ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’ (I’m a rapist) song sung by Honey Singh, even though it attracts provisions of Section 294 (singing or uttering any obscene song or words in public place) of the IPC, which is a cognisable offence?” Speaking for the bench, justice Jain said, “How can he (Honey Singh) sing such kind of songs?
You can’t read the whole lyrics… we are sure, Mr Puri (Punjab’s counsel), you would not be able to go through the complete song ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’… On YouTube he has admitted that he has not written but sung the song in Gurgaon in a party. You (Punjab authorities) check out YouTube and take action against him… In his songs, there is nothing except abuses.”
Also, making the Haryana government and the Chandigarh administration apart from Punjab, parties in the case, the court directed them to take action as per law against people linked with vulgar songs.
The case has been adjourned for July 4 for the next hearing.
