Amritsar: Three convicts in case of beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib were assaulted by two undertrial persons in central jail here on January 26, the sources have revealed.
The convicts are Prem Singh alias Teetu, Shamsher Singh and Raju Masih, residents of Ramdiwali Musalmana village of Baba Bakala sub-division. They had committed beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib in same village on March 12, 2016. They also stole money from the golak of the Gurdwara. They were arrested by the police with the help of local residents.

On October 25, 2017, the court of additional district session judge Shivmohan Garg awarded 7-year jail term and imposed fine of Rs. 5000 to each of the three convicts while holding them guilty u/sections 295-A, 295, 436, 457 and 380 of IPC.
Trio are in central jail here, where Mann Singh (40) from Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur and Sher Singh (28) from Kartarpur in Jalandhar are confined as undertrials. The Border Security Force (BSF) of India arrested duo in relation to a case of recovery of Arms.

On Jan 26, Sher Singh along with some other Sikh prisoners assaulted the beadbi convicts leaving them injured, said the sources. Trio was hospitalized. However, the jail administration kept the incident secret.
Reason behind the attack is not personal, but the convicts were attacked because of their involvement in the beadbi incidents, maintained sources.
It is notable that the Sikh Sangat honoured Sher Singh and Mann Singh with ‘Siropas’ during their court appearance few days back despite the cops restricted them from doing so.
Notably, two Sikh activists of Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, had also attempted to attack the convicts during their trial in Baba Bakala judicial complex few days after the beadbi incident. Culprits of beadbi had sustained minor injuries in that assault.
