Ahmedabad, India (November 2, 2013): According to a news reportedly by Daily News and Analysis (DNA): while the entire city will be celebrating Diwali with great pomp and enthusiasm, the [Sikhs] in the city has planned a 1984shraddhanjali ceremony on November 2. They plan to offer special prayers in the city on Saturday, to mourn the thousands of lives lost in the Sikh genocide in November, 1984”.
Dang reportedly further said that the Sikhs have always come forward to help the country in times of crisis.
Elaborating on the event, Manmeet Singh Chhabra, who is one of the members of Jatha, said, “Similar events will be held from November 1-3 in Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai, Delhi and all other cities of India where Sikhs reside in large numbers.”
In June this year, Sikhs had held a protest rally at Gurudwara Gobind Dham on SG highway under the leadership of activist Jarnail Singh, who had thrown a shoe at finance minister P Chidambaram during a press conference in the past.
“When the accused of the 2002 Gujarat […] like Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi have been sent to jail, then why can we not get justice for the [November 1984] victims? The key accused, Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, should be punished and their acquittal should be challenged in court,” Manmeet Singh added.
