Tarn Taran (January 30, 2011): It is reported by various newspapers that Kuldeep Singh, a key witness in the murder of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra has gone missing from his house in Amritsar. It is notable that he was provided security cover of eight CRPF Jawans. He is said to have gone missing from his house on Friday evening (28 Jaunary).
Kuldeep Singh, once S.P.O in Punjab Police, had testified the torture of Jaswant Singh Khalra during his days in illegal custody of Punjab Police. JS Khalra, was murdered by police, as he had exposed the systematic and widespread practice of enforced disappearance, fake encounters, custodial murders and troture adopted by Punjab police for years during mid-1980s to mid-1990s. S.P.O Kuldeep Singh is eye-witness of the murder of JS Khalra and on his witness some accused police officers have been convicted by a CBI court.
Talking about the mysterious disappearance of Kuldeep Singh, Tarn Taran SSP P.S. Virk is reported to have said that police as well as CRPF were trying to trace the whereabouts of Kuldeep Singh. “As of now, I don’t see any foul play, but we are trying to find him,” he is reported by Times of India (TOI) to have added.
⊕ Update: On 31 January 2011, The Times of India (ToI) reported that Kuldeep Singh returned home after 3 days.
