Peshawar, Pakistan (August 09, 2014): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed police to improve security the Sikh Gurdwaras, homes and businesses of Sikhs as well as those of other religious minorities, The News reported on August 7.
The move comes after an August 6 attack that killed one Sikh and injured two other Sikhs. Members of the Sikh community in Peshawar blocked Grand Trunk Road after the incident occurred.
The provincial government also announced compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 (US $5,050) for the heirs of the slain Sikh.
The killers will be arrested soon and minorities will receive the necessary protection, Khattak said.
