Orlando, FL: National Conference on Bullying and Child Victimization is the largest and most comprehensive conference focused on all the aspects bullying and child related crime. S. Karanveer Singh, S. Kavneet Singh, S. Gulbarg Singh and S. Ishwar Singh represented the American Sikh Council and attended the conference held at the Hilton-Double-Tree next to Sea World in Orlando, Florida. The convention ran from February 21 – 24, 2016. The American Sikh Council put up an exhibit and disseminated literature about bullying of Sikh American Children and the Sikh Faith by educating nearly all the over 385 attendees, from 47 states, Canada and the UK. The empathy and genuine concern by attendees was palpable. Over a 125 turbans were tied on the enthusiastic participants who comprised of primarily School Administrators, Counselors, School Resource Officers, Juvenile Investigators, Prosecutors, Child Protective Services specialists, Internet Crime Investigators, Probation Officers, Psychologists, Community Workers and many Teachers.
On February 23, 2016 S. Karanveer Singh a 17 year old high school senior who wrote and published the solution oriented comprehensive book, ‘Bullying of Sikh American Children – Through the Eyes of a Sikh American High School Student’ gave an hour long presentation at the conference, highlighting the insidious bullying faced by Sikh American children in schools across the nation and strategies to mitigate it. The audience made up of various specialists including educators and law enforcement officials were most appreciative of the information and proactive positive approach taken by the young high school presenter to minimize bullying. High ranking law enforcement officials at the venue genuinely complimented the incredible effort put forth by S. Karanveer Singh as an upstanding American role model to diminish the pain and suffering of peers and others around him. He was commended by many that this extremely useful and timely book can be used by anyone, and not just Sikh Americans.
