In a bid to terrify the political leadership, the police leadership in connivance with their journalist “friends” has once again raised the bogey of revival of militancy in the state.
The stories related to “resurfacing of militancy” have found maximum space in a Chandigarh based English Daily on Wednesday (August 26). Referring to some recent incidents of shoot-out, the intelligence wing of the police department has succeeded in planting stories aiming to make political leadership their captive and create fear psychosis in the minds of general masses.
It’s ironic that a section of the press has always been (mis)used by the state officials for floating and planting wrong and cooked-up theories. On their part, it’s an old mindset of the police higher-ups: make political leadership insecure to enjoy impunity.
There is a widespread hearsay that “the police have foiled a bid on the life of Junior Badal supposedly by the militants”. If at all there was any unsuccessful attempt on the life of Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal by anyone at any point of time, it’s a serious matter and needs to be probed thoroughly. However, we wonder why the Punjab DG hasn’t claimed credit for unearthing such unsuccessful plot in a transparent manner by formally holding a press conference. The manner in which the news of the so-called plot has been leaked to the press has raised suspicion in the minds of the people. The authenticity of the plot is under public scanner.
Nobody is denying that the first and foremost role and duty of the police is to maintain law and remain vigilant so that peace is not disturbed. However, our concern is that it should not be at the cost of tarnishing the image of Sikhs worldwide and victimizing those who hold independent beliefs and thoughts. And believe it our concerns are not far-fetched.
The arrest of Bhai Daljit Singh Chairman of SAD (Panch Pardani) and his associates under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 is evident that environment is being created to pave the way for afresh reign of police repression.
To downgrade the image of Daljit Singh as a political leader the policemen handcuffed him when they brought him in the court. This act of police is a clear violation of Supreme Court directions too.
We, the members of the Dal Khalsa express our solidarity with Bhai Daljit Singh and condemn the police highhandedness. We also ridicule the media trail of Daljit Singh by the police.
