Political groups seek transfer of Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara to Punjab jail

Chandigarh: Political groups, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), United Akali Dal (UAD) and Sutanter Akali Dal have sought transfer of Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara to a jail in Punjab from Delhi. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is presently lodged in Delhi based Tihar jail.

Representatives of these groups met Punjab DGP Suresh Arora in this regard and demanded that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara be transferred to a jail in Punjab as no case was pending against him in Delhi.

Talking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone, UAD leader Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said they were planning to organise another “Sarbat Khalsa” on November 10 at Talwandi Sabo. He said that all the rights to organize the event rests with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and other “Sarbat Khalsa” appointed Jathedars – Bhai Dhain Singh Mand, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and Bhai Baljeet Singh Daduwal.

Gurdeep Singh Bathinda said that three persons nealy Chamkaur Singh, Gurmukh Singh and Jaswinder Singh were tortured by the Faridkot police on September 13. They alleged that the victims were pressured to give a false witness in the case.

They said if the guilty officers, DSP Sulakkhan Singh, CIA inspector Shinder Singh and inspectors Jagdish Kumar and Dalbir Singh, were not punished, they would submit a memorandum to the Punjab Governor on September 26 and stage a dharna outside the CM residence. The DGP has asked the DIG Bathinda Range to inquire into the incident.
