Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 10, 2014): As per media reports Punjab Police rejected the allegations of former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant, who had accused the Punjab police for making a bid to kidnap him earlier today (Jan. 10).
In a press release Dinkar Gupta, Addl. Director General of Police, Security-cum-Law & Order, Punjab, said that Sh. Shashi Kant (Retd. DGP) had Friday morning intimated Chandigarh Police at phone no.100 that police personnel in civil clothes were in the vicinity of his residence in Sector 18, and that ‘probably’ he was to be ‘kidnapped’.
The ADGP said that the matter was looked into by the Chandigarh Police, which found that four members of an unarmed investigation team of Punjab Police had gone to Sector 18 area in connection with an ongoing investigation pertaining to District Mohali.
“They were duly examined by the Chandigarh Police who concluded that there was no ‘kidnapping plan’ of any kind whatsoever as apprehended by Sh. Shashi Kant. The complaint submitted by Sh. Shashi Kant was filed”, The ADGP claimed.
Dinkar Gupta said that the DGP, Punjab deputed him and Sh. Jasminder Singh, ADGP, Crime, Punjab to visit Sh. Shashi Kant at his residence in this regard.
“I and ADGP, Crime, alongwith SSP Chandigarh, met Sh. Shashi Kant at his Sector 18 house at about 5:15 pm where SSP, Chandigarh informed Sh. Shashi Kant that his complaint had been found to be wrong, and as such had been filed”, Gupta said.
The press release said that Sh. Shashi Kant was reminded that he had been provided with two PSOs from Punjab Security Wing, and if he has any such apprehensions in future, he or his PSOs should contact the Security Wing.
