On July 28, 2024, Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, hosted a seminar where Sr. Jaskirat Singh delivered an insightful talk on the 2023 floods in Punjab. Singh highlighted critical errors by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), including inadequate flood management and the alleged concealment of crucial records. These failures significantly worsened the flood’s impact, leading to widespread damage and displacement across Punjab. Singh emphasized the urgent need for reform. He urged for greater transparency in water resource management and accountability for BBMB’s shortcomings. Moving forward, he recommended that Punjab invest in advanced flood forecasting technologies, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and enhance community preparedness.
