Chandigarh (December 27, 2013): According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), the release of two more Sikh political prisoners – Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Bhai Shamsher Singh, is expected this evening (Dec. 27).
“Chances of their release this evening are high because the process of grant of parole is almost over” Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) sources who are regularly keeping a close eye over the issue said.
They have already undergone more than 18 years imprisonment. Their jail conduct was good and they were never released since the time of their arrest.
It is pertinent to note that the court that sentenced Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh and Gurmeet Singh (released on parole on Dec. 25) besides other persons involved in Beant Singh’s assassination had specifically make following note in it’s judgement:-
“1642. Above all, there is also nothing on the file to say that these convicts were previous offenders or involved in any other criminal activities and as such there is no possibility of their reformation and rehabilitation. On the contrary, their act and conduct coupled with their roles forces this court to note that atleast these three convicts can be reformed and rehabilitated as a responsible citizen of India” (State v. Gurmeet Singh etc.; Sessions case no. 2-A of 1995).
It is notable that a Sikh farmer from Haryana has been on hunger strike since November 14, 2013 seeking the release of Gurmeet Singh Shamsher Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, besides three others.
SSN sources said that Lakhwider Singh and Shamsher Singh may be bailed out of Burrail jail today as the sureties have submitted their bonds to the appropriate authorities.
