Roman Catholic Representatives Presents Letter at Akal Takht Sahib; States “Crusade” is Long Banned

On July 15, 2024, representatives from the Roman Catholic Church, led by Interfaith Director John Grewal, met with Sikh Jathedars at Akal Takht Sahib. During the meeting, they presented a letter stating that the use of the term “crusade” has long been prohibited by the Roman Catholic Church and the Pope. Following the meeting, John Grewal addressed media personnel outside the Akal Takht Sahib secretariat. Representatives from various Sikh organizations who accompanied the Christian delegation also shared their perspectives with the media. It is notable that some newly emerging deras, claiming to practice Christianity, are holding events under the title of “crusade”. These deras are facing serious allegations of practicing and spreading superstitions, expressing hatred towards the Sikhs and affecting communal harmony. The letter expresses clear disassociation with such sections acting under the name of Christianity.
