Chandigarh: The Supreme Court of India is likely to take up an appeal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, 16 October 2024, concerning the 1995 former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s murder case.
The appeal challenges the life sentence granted to Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking its enhancement to a death sentence.
The case is scheduled for hearing before a bench comprising Justice J K Maheshwari and Justice Rajesh Bindal.
“Alongside the CBI’s appeal, the court will also hear two related appeals: one filed by Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara challenging his conviction, and another by Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, who is also serving life imprisonment in connection Beant Singh case”, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur of Panjaab Lawyers told Sikh Siyasat News.
