SGPC form panel to frame “service rules” for Jathedars

Amritsar, Punjab: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has reportedly nominated members to a panel constituted to frame “service rules” for the Jathedars of Sikh Takhts. The issue was particularly in focus after controversial dismissal of Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh.

Various Sikh organizations, including Dal Khalsa and American Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (AGPC), were demanding that “code of conduct” for the appointment, service and removal etc. of Jathedars of Sikh Takhts.

Talking to mediapersons, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said the committee would comprise Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh, Dr Kirpal Singh from Chandigarh, Dr Prithipal Singh Kapoor, Dr Balwant Singh Dhillon from Guru Nanak Dev Unversity and Dr Balkar Singh from Patiala.

Dalmegh Singh, SGPC secretary, has been appointed coordinator.
