Amritsar: Panthic Talmel Sangathan and Akal Purakh Ki Fauj celebrated Parkash Gurpurab of Guru Ram Dass Ji today in accordance with the original Nanakshahi Calendar. These Sikh bodies take out a Nagar Kirtan from Roop Nagar (Amritsar) which concluded at Darbar Sahib (Amritsar).

The procession passed through various parts of the Amritsar city. Notably Guru Ram Dass Ji, the fourth Guru of the Sikhs was also the founder of the Ramdaspur which was later came to be known as the Amritsar.

Panthic Talmel Sangathan (PTS)’s convenor and former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh said that the original Nanakshahi Calendar symbolises the unique identity of the Sikh community. He criticized SGPC for amalgamating the Nanakshahi calendar with the Bikrami Calendar.
