Sikh Council UK urges Panthic unity and calls urgent meeting of the Board of Jathedars

London: Sikh Council UK will be convening an urgent meeting of the Board of Jathedars in connection with the incident at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Southall.

Sikh Council UK has urged all parties concerned to show restraint, reduce tensions and work in the interests of Panthic unity.

“The meeting will include discussion on progressing the development of a framework through consensus to prevent incidents that bring Gurdwaras into disrepute, including in respect of controversies regarding parcharaks as agreed at the Panthic Meeting at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara Leicester last September”, reads a statement issued by the Sikh Council UK.

“Sikhs in the UK must work together to de-escalate tensions and ensure community cohesion based on a shared understanding that dialogue and not violence is the answer to address any issues of concern thereby setting a positive example for Sikhs across the globe”, the report reads further.

Sikh Council UK colleagues have been engaged in continuous discussions with the relevant parties over the past week. Sikh Council UK will continue working towards bringing positive change for the Panth in challenging circumstances.
