Sikh Students Federation Leaders Arrested

Patiala (November 3, 2009) Around 8 in the morning when the Punjabi University Students were calling for peacefull bandh at the university gate, punjab police lathicharged the students and arrested sikh student federation president Paramjeet Singh Gazi along with vice-preident Makhan Singh Gandua.

Students had peacefully shut the main gate of Punjabi University and were standing inside the gate. ‘We were allowing the needy and the girl students to move in the campus so that they could reach their hostel.’ a student informed. Soon after a police party arrived at the campus. Federation leaders asked the party to talk to the Dean students welfare who was about to arrive at the main gate. Meanwhile SHO S.S Chauhan, who was leading the police party talked to some superior officer and suddenly started confrontation which was replied by Federation leaders. As the police lathi-charged at students after entering the campus SSF leaders Makhan Singh, Parmjeet Singh Gazi and some students  received minor injuries.

Police took Parmjeet Singh Gazi and Makhan Singh in custody and took them to Sadar Police station, Patiala, from where they were released after about 12 hours detention.
