Sumedh Saini Appears Before SIT in Balwant Singh Multani Disappearance Case

SAS Nagar: Former Punjab Police chief Sumedh Saini appeared before Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday (May 17). He was summoned by SIT for questioning in Balwant Singh Multani enforced disappearance case.

Media reports say that Sunedh Saini arrived at 4:00 pm and questioning continued till 5:30 pm. The police did not reveal details of questioning.

Sumedh Saini is booked by Mataur police for enforced disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani. The FIR is registered against Sunedh Saini and others on the complaint of Balwant Singh Multani’s brother Palwinder Singh Multani after about 29 years of the incident.

Sumedh Saini enjoys state patronage and was able to avoid any sort of proceedings against him in various cases of human rights abuses, extra-judicial killings and fake encounters. Even in the present case the police did not arrest him after registration of FIR and he was granted anticipatory bail by a Mohali court while directing him to join the investigation.
