Ludhiana: It is learned that Punjabi poet Surjit Patar has been appointed as Chairman of the Punjab Kala Parishad (arts council). He has replaced incumbent TV anchor Satinder Satti whi was appointed by the previous Badal regime. Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu handed the nomination letter to Patar at the poet’s house here today.
The minister reportedly said that the government would constitute a “cultural parliament” within a month. “We convened several meetings with intellectuals of Punjab in this connection.”
“I firmly believe that, through the arts council, we will take art, music and culture to the village level. Punjab is not just a geographical entity, but it also is a land of songs, love and philosophy,” reads the quote from the statement of Surjit Patar published in an English tabloid.
Furthermore, he stated that his action plan, the poet said the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi and Punjabi Sahit Akademi could be brought together for daylong cultural fairs, notes The Tribune (TT).
