Washington DC, USA: US based pro-Sikh freedom propagandist and chairman of Nankana Sahib Foundation Ganga Singh Dhillon (86) passed away at his residence in Washington DC on Tuesday (Sept. 23).
A news reported on website of Hindustan Times (HT) notes: Ganga Singh advocated “Sikhs are a Nation ” and worked for the freedom of the Sikh Nation throughout his life. In 1981, he was not allowed to enter India and was deported back to the USA. As the Chairman of “Sri Nankana Sahib Foundation (1975 till now), he worked for Sikh welfare and played a pivotal role for the formation of Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandik Committee in 1999.
Remembering the Sikh leader, International journalist Nirpal Singh Shergill, wrote: “Very sad news. After 1984, when I started visiting USA, as a journalist on international affairs, he was always my kind host to invite me to its capital, Washington DC. A very wise, very resourceful and a visionary Sikh community leader. I will miss him!”.
His cremation will take place on Saturday.
