Jalandhar/Punjab (October 03, 2012): According to media reprots Wife of British Sikh citizen Jaswant Singh Azad has claimed that her husband was innocent. She has also sought the intervention of British High Commission against the arrest and detention of her husband.
Bibi Jasreigh Kaur has expressed shock over the arrest of her husband for allegedly funding “terrorist” activities in Punjab. He is booked by Punjab police for “waging war against the state”.
“These allegations are so false that I was bemused at the suggestion of them,” Bibi Jasreigh Kaur said.
“I still live with my husband over a shop we have run for more than 25 years. I have approached the British Commissioner in New Delhi to seek his intervention in this false case lodged against him” she told.
Bibi Jasreigh Kaur further told that:
“The British have a record of transparent, just and fair trials, and I am hoping the Indian system is just as fair.”
On the other hand media reports reveal that the police as claimed to have enough evidence to charge Jaswant Singh for waging war against India.
According to media reports Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Diljinder Singh Dhillon, however, stood his ground saying – “We have enough evidence against Jaswant to prove his involvement in waging war against the state and bank accounts through which he got funds from radical outfits to create sleeping cells in Punjab.”
The media reports reveal that the ADCP has also linked UK based Sikh Television – Sangat TV to alleged funding of so-called terrorist activities in India.
“He (Jaswant Singh) is the hub of all activities to fund terrorist elements in India and the money was collected through a radical TV channel, Sangat in the UK,” ADCP Dhillon is reported to have said by a newspaper published from Chandigarh.
It is notable that the Sangat TV is a 24 hour community channel that is aired through out Europe via SKY. This channel is reportedly run by Sangat Trust, a non-profit registered charity.
According to information the Sangat Trust had raised a charity fund to help the Dharmi Faujis, the army men who had left the Indian army after Indian army invaded Darbar Sahib and other Sikh Gurudwaras in June 1984.
It is notable that such funds were also created by Shiormani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC), a statutory body in India, to extend help to Dharmi Faujis and their families.
Now it is to be seen if Punjab police is terming the formation of this fund as funding of so-called terrorist activity.
