Won’t Hesitate in Heading SGPC once again If Badal Dal wants it: says Avtar Singh Makkar

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Saturday (Oct. 22) said he would not hesitate in heading the SGPC once again, provided the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) wanted it.

Avtar Singh Makkar was the chief guest at the Khalsa Sports Festival held at Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib on Saturday.

While interacting with mediapersons, he said he had done his job to his utmost ability since he was given the responsibility 11 years ago in 2005. Notably, Avtar Singh Makkar’s term as SGPC was virtually extended as an effect of a Supreme Court of India’s order that stalled the notification of SGPC’s 2011 election and directed the earlier executive committee to conduct day to day functioning of the Gurdwara management body.

SGPC’s general house elected in 2011 is expected to meet on November 5 and Makkar could to be replaced by a new SGPC chief.
