30 Years of June 1984 attack: Sikh body to hold Conference and Genocide Remembrance March on June 5

Amritsar, Punjab (May 12, 2014): To observe and commemorate the 30th anniversary of army attack on Darbar Sahib, the Dal Khalsa has resolved to organize a ‘conference followed by Genocide Remembrance Parade on 5th June. The decision was taken at a meeting of office bearers held at party head-office today.

The conference will be held in open and the march would start from Hall gate and conclude at Akal Takht, where an Ardas will be performed to pay rich tributes to all those who were killed during the attack.
We are determined to carry on the struggle for Sikh Sovereignty launched by Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale and other martyrs said Kanwarpal Singh spokesperson of the party while addressing the media here today.

Dal Khalsa leaders addressing the media persons

He said, “the blood of innocent Sikhs- men, women and children spilt in the precincts of the Golden Temple in June 1984 cries for justice. He said since then there has been change in political leadership with some Sikhs at the helm of affairs both at centre and the state. This however has not healed our wounds of June 84.”

He said the new dimension has been added this time with disclosure of involvement of British government in planning the attack. He said although Sikhs have no knowledge of British involvement however the complicity of USSR and Israel in supporting the Indian government remained on the lips of every Sikh.

He said army assault code named Operation Blue Star was not something sudden, something unexpected, the Indian government led by its PM Indira Gandhi took advice and other forms of support from world powers including the UK six months prior to the actual date of the attack. The complicity of the then UK government in planning the attack has jolted the Sikh Nation. He said till date select information has come out.

He appreciated the Sikh Diaspora especially British Sikhs who are observing the 30th anniversary on June 8 in a big way and pins hope that they would exert pressure on their government to reveal the truth in its entirety.

The role of Akali leadership is also under scanner. In the recent concluded elections nominees of BJP and the Congress did politics over Sikh pain and blamed each other for the Darbar Sahib massacre. Books by military and intelligence officials reveal less and hide more. All this will be highlighted during the commemoration functions of the deadly assault, said Kanwrapal Singh.
Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib and Sarbjit Singh Ghuman interacting with media said the aim of ‘Genocide Remembrance Parade’ was to reiterate the cause for thousands of Sikhs who laid down their lives in 1984 while defending the attack on their faith adding that no issue of Sikhs has been resolved till date. During press meet Ranbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Kulwant Singh and SYP head Nobeljit Singh were present.
