Dera Pardon Issue: Ontario and Quebec Sikh bodies, Gurduara Committees take vital initiative

Ontario, Canada: In their attempt to represent Ontario and Quebec Sikh diaspora’s dissent against Jathedars’ decision to withdraw the Hukumnama against controversial Dera Sauda Sirsa chief, Sikh organizations and Gurduara Committees of Ontario and Quebec took a vital initiative by passing three resolutions rejecting so-called pardon to dera chief.

According to a written release (copy available with the Sikh Siyasat News), representatives of Ontario Gurdwara Committee, Ontario Sikh and Gurduara Council and all organizations of Ontario and Quebac held a meeting to discuss the political pardon of Dera Sauda chief and unanimously passed three resolutions.

In first resolution the Sikh representatives rejected Jathedars’ decision to grant pardon to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief.

In second resolution it is said that the call to hold Sarbat Khalsa on Bandi Chhor Divas should be extended to Sikh diaspora also, so that the global Sikh community gets represented in the Sarbat Khalsa.

Third resolution gave a call to reject state-sponsored appointments of Jathedars of Sikh Takhats and insisted on developing framework for appointment of Jathedars by the Sarbat Khalsa so that the position of Takhat Jathedar could be kept out of any legal or political influence of any country in accordance with the Sikh traditions and principles.
