Amritsar, Punjab (December 27, 2013): It is learnt that upon hearing the news of release of Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Bhai Shamsher Singh on parole from Burrail Jail, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who was staying at Mata Ganga Ji Niwas reached Akal Takht and performed an ardas of thanks giving together with the gathered Sangat.
As part of his ardas he has also announced the end of his hunger strike.
Bhai Gurmeet Singh’s mother can be seen in the picture with Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa while he takes his first sips of juice after 44 days.
It is notable that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh had started hunger strike on November 14 seeking release of Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Bhai Lakhwinder and Bhai Shamsher Singh from Burial Jail. Trio were arrested in 1995 and they had served 18 years in prison without any parole.
In following days names of three more prisoners were added to the list. They were Bhai Lal Singh, Bhai Wariam Singh and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira.
Bhai Lal Singh, who had already availed 20 paroles was released on December 25, 2013 on 6 week’s parole. Bhai Gurmeet Singh was paroled out for 28 days on December 25; while Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh were paroled out of Burail jail in the late evening today.
Remaining two Sikh prisoners namely – Bhai Wariam Singh and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira are still confined in UP’s Bans Barely and Karnatka’s Gulbarga Central Jail.
There are reports that the case permanent release of Wariam Singh is nearing final stage. Despite many efforts there was not much progress in Gurdeep Singh Khaira’s case.
As per sources he may be first transferred to some jail in Punjab, as the application of his jail transfer was moved even before the initiation of Amb Shaib Morcha; and then the process of his parole may start.
