New Delhi: Sikh political prisoner Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar is awaiting a formal release order as all legal barriers in his release are removed. His release is ordered by the Union government of India which is endorsed by the Punjab government and local authorities. The only remaining formality remains is issuance of release order which is to be issued by the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi.
It is notable that Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar has been jailed since 1995. His permanent release was cleared by the Government of India in 2019 on the occasion of 550th Parkash Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. As Prof. Bhullar was sentenced to imprisonment for life in a Delhi case; the Union government had asked the Delhi government to issue his release order. But the process of his release was halted when Maninder Bitta filed a writ petition in Supreme Court of India against Prof. Bhullar’s release. The petition was dismissed by SCI last week.
Talking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Panjaab Lawyers’ Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, counsel of Prof. Bhullar, said: “all legal barriers against Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar’s permanent release are lifted now”.
“Central government of India and Punjab government has expressed their concurrence for release of Prof. Bhullar. Only formality left behind is issuance of formal release order by the Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi Government”, he added.
