Ludhiana Police fail to file charge in Sant Bhindranwale T-shirts case

Ludhiana, Punjab: Ludhiana police reportedly fail to present charge-sheet against Er. Mawinder Singh Giaspura in a case related to “recover” of T-shirts with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s photo imprints. Police had booked Giaspura in this case on the complaint of a Shiv Sena leader Bajeet Jassian.

In a written statement released today, Er. Giaspura said that police had declared to file the charge sheet in a local court on May 26 at 10 am.

“I arrived at the court before 10 am with others, but the police did not file the charge sheet” he said.

“After waiting for few hours we were told that the charge sheet will be filed after lunch. But the police failed to file the charge sheet even during post lunch session of the court” he added. He said that the police may present the charge sheet during next court hearing after few days.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur and Advocate Gurjinder Singh Sahni said that in a case related to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, the Home department of Punjab did not grant permissions to prosecute accused Duleep Kumar u/s. 153-A of Indian Penal Code, but on the other hand permission to prosecute Er. Manwinder Singh Giaspura u/s 153-A were granted in present case. They said that it was a result of “system-bias” against the Sikhs.

Er. Giaspura and others, who were reportedly wearing T-Shirts with imprints of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s T-shirts said that the case was allegedly falsely registered by the Ludhiana police at the behest of a local Shiv Sena leader to appease Hindu extremists.

He said that it was no any offence to wear T-shirts with imprints of images of Sikh martyrs.
