Nabha Jail inmates go on relay hunger strike in support of cause of Sikh Political prisoners

Nabha/ Ludhiana: General inmates of Maximum Security Jail, Nabha have joined struggle seeking permanent release of Sikh political prisoners who remains confined in India jails even after serving terms of their sentences.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur informed Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that inmates have decided to conduct relay hunger strike where 10 persons would sit on hunger strike for 48 hours. He said that first jatha of 10 inmates sat on hunger strike today.

On the other hand Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s indefinite and continuous hunger strike crossed 48th day today. He is demanding permanent release of seven Sikh political prisoners namely Bhai Lakhwinder Singh (Burail Jail), Gurmit Singh (Burail Jail), Shamsher Singh (Burail Jail), Lal Singh (Nabha Jail), Wariam Singh (Bans Bareli Jail), Gurdeep Singh Khaira (Gulbarg Jail, Karnataka) and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar (Tihar Jail, Delhi). These Sikh political prisoners were sentenced by Indian court of imprisonment for life and they remain confined in jails even after having completed minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.

Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who is surviving only on water for last 48 days has declared that if the government fails to release these seven Sikh political prisoners before 2 January, he would even stop drink water.
