New Delhi, India (March 29, 2012): Indian judiciary’s intentions does not seem to be good for Punjab and it’s people. Indian Courts that failed to nail culprits of major human rights violations, including those occurred with in it’s vicinity – such as Sikh genocide 1984, are proactive in issuing “observations” on current situation in Punjab.
As per reports Supreme Court sharply criticised the move against death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana. Punjab government headed by Parkash Singh Badal is reported to have come under sharp criticism from Supreme court of India.
Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was to be hanged on Saturday but following centre’s intervention his execution has been deferred after President had referred the matter to the Home Ministry. The Supreme Court termed the stay on execution of Rajoana, convict in former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh as a “drama” by the state government. The observation of the court came during the hearing of petition of another death row convict Devenderpal Singh Bhullar.
Not only this, the Supreme Court said that a person who murdered a chief minister was getting political support. The apex court also accused the Punjab government of politicizing the issue. The court also asked how parties which garnered support from these people can leave them”.
The court said that what has happened for the last four days in a particular state is a telling situation.
It is notable that the Supreme Court of India had earlier confirmed the death sentence of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar in 2002 in a split decision.
An independent observer said that Indian judiciary is now main vehicle of furthering the so-called nationalist ideology, therefore such observations are natural.
