Jammu/Moga: The Punjab police yesterday arrested a person named Jagjit Singh @ Jaggi from Jammu in FIR 193/16, PS Baghapurana. The Punjab police yesterday raided the house of Jagjit Singh in Jammu and arrested him.
As the police raided Jagjit Singh’s house the local Sikh representatives rushed to the spot and asked the police to clarify the reasons behind his arrest. As per media reports the police did not informed about the reason of Jagjit Singh’s arrest.
The Sikh representatives later blocked traffic to protest against Jagjit Singh’s arrest. They alleged that the Punjab police was framing false cases against Sikh youth.
As per media reports, the police also took away laptop, mobile and cash from Jagjit Singh office without informing his family members.
It is learnt that the investigation officer in FIR No. 193/16 (PS Baghapurana) had filed an application before Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Baghapurana for issuance of an arrest warrant of Jagjit Singh son of Narinder Singh, resident of Shashtari Nagar (Jammu) in above said case. Allowing the application the court had directed Baghapurana SHO to arrest and produce Jagijit Singh before the court.
Notably, this case is related to recovery of a desi (domestically made) pistol. The Punjab government and Punjab police maintain that investigations of this case had led to ‘solution’ of a number of cases in Punjab, including the cases related to killings of RSS activists Jagdish Gagneja, Ravinder Gosain, pastor Sultan Masih and others. Interesting the police now maintains that alleged attack on Shiv Sena leader Amit Arora was a real incident where as earlier the police had booked Amit Arora for fabricating the attack in order to get security cover.
