Remove Objectionable Reference Of Sikh Struggle In Maharashtra School Curriculum Books: SGPC

Chandigarh:  In order to put to rest the raging issue in which a Class 9th text book published by Maharashtra Education Board has termed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a ‘terrorist’, the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar in a press note has strongly condemned highly insidious move of the Maharashtra  education board.

While speaking on the issue SGPC chief stated that ” Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is credited for his immense contribution in the field of preaching Sikh values and ethics. He fought and struggled for the just demands and rights of the Sikhs and worked for universal welfare as propagated by Sikhi”.

Moreover, their is no FIR registered against Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and neither the state nor the central government has ever officially declared him a ‘terrorist’, he added.

Therefore, he made an outright appeal to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devindra Fadnavis for getting the objectionable matter taught from the Class 9th text book removed with immediate effect.

Furthermorer, a delegation of Damdami Takhsal lead by Bhai Jaspal Singh Sidhu meet Maharashtra’s Education Minister Vinod Tawade and asked him to get the objectionable reference to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale removed from the text books as it gives a negative interpretation to his thoughts and personality.
