Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has issued a 10 days ultimatum to the Punjab government with a warning that if the government fails to withdraw the class XII history book, which is caught into controversy over removal of chapters on Sikh history, then the SGPC would call a “panthic gathering” on May 19.
The decision in this regard was taken yesterday (May 7) during a meeting of Dharam Prachar Committee and Sikh History Research Board- both are sub-bodies of the SGPC.
Talking to the media SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal refreshed allegations against the Punjab government for removing the chapters of Sikh history from class XII text book under a ‘conspiracy’.
The SGPC has announced to setup a sub-committee to help publishers in deciding the contents of the text/help books for students.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government last evening (May 7) announced to for a 6 members permanent committee to oversea the textbooks to be published by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). Capt. Amarinder Singh said that the committee shall comprise two members to be nominated by the SGPC.
