Widespread protests by Sikh sangat in support of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa and Sikh political prisoners

Chandigarh: Sikh organizations, activists and sangat today staged protests in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and else where in Indian subcontinent besides protest demonstrations by Sikh diaspora sections in front Indian High Commissions abroad.

The protesters in Punjab and elsewhere in Indian subcontinent submitted memorandums to local authorities seeking release of Sikh political prisoners who are jailed in India despite completing their jail sentences.

Protest in Tarn Taran

The protesters extended support to a Sikh activist Bhai Gurbaksh Khalsa who is on fast unto death seeking release of seven such Sikh political prisoners namely Bhai Lal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shamsher Singh, Wariam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Khera and Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.

Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) sources said that protests were held in Ambla, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Jammu. In Punjab demonstration were held at various places in every district of the state. Protests were held even at Tehsil and village levels at various places in Punjab.

Sikh protest outside Indian High Commission in London

Sikh activists held demonstration in United Kingdom, Germany, Phillipines and Italy. As per information protests were held in other countries as well and more details were awaited at the time of reporting.

Notably, Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has announced to hold a march from Ambala to Amritsar on 56th day of his hunger strike on 8 January. The march shall pass through various cities of Punjab before reaching Amritsar.

Meanwhile, there are no reports of any significant progress related to release of concerned Sikh political prisoners.
