1984 Sikh Genocide: Convicted Indian Politician Sajjan Kumar Likely to Surrender on December 31

Chandigarh: As per media report convicted Indian politician Sajjan Kumar is expected to surrender before a Delhi court on December 31 to serve the life imprisonment awarded to him by Delhi High Court in a 1984 Sikh genocide related case.
After Sajjan Kumar failed to get relief from Delhi High Court or the Indian Supreme Court his counsel Anil Kumar Sharma reportedly said: “We will comply with the high court’s judgment”.

The counsel said Sajjan Kumar’s appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the high court verdict is not likely to be taken up for hearing before December 31.
The Indian politician who played role in genocide of Sikhs in Delhi in November 1984 was sentenced to imprisonment for life by Delhi High Court on December 17.
The case was related to the killing of five Sikhs in the Raj Nagar Part-I area in Palam Colony in south-west Delhi on November 1-2, 1984, and the burning down of a gurdwara in Raj Nagar Part II.
The high court had on December 21 rejected Kumar’s plea seeking extension till January 30 to surrender.
